The mysterious fall of the largest of the world's earliest urban civilizations nearly 4,000 years ago in what is now India, Pakistan, Nepal and Bangladesh now appears to have a key culprit ? ancient climate change, researchers say.

Ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia may be the best known of the first great urban cultures, but the largest was the Indus or Harappan civilization. This culture once extended over more than 386,000 square miles (1 million square kilometers) across the plains of the Indus River from?the Arabian Sea?to the Ganges, and at its peak may have accounted for 10 percent of the world population. The civilization developed about 5,200 years ago, and slowly disintegrated between 3,900 and 3,000 years ago ? populations largely abandoned cities, migrating toward the east.

"Antiquity knew about Egypt and Mesopotamia, but the Indus civilization, which was bigger than these two, was completely forgotten until the 1920s," said researcher Liviu Giosan, a geologist at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution in Massachusetts. Nearly a century ago, researchers began discovering numerous remains of Harappan settlements along the Indus River and its tributaries, as well as in a vast desert region at the border of India and Pakistan. Evidence was uncovered for sophisticated cities, sea links with Mesopotamia, internal trade routes, arts and crafts, and as-yet undeciphered writing.

"They had cities ordered into grids, with exquisite plumbing, which was not encountered again until the Romans," Giosan told LiveScience. "They seem to have been a more democratic society than Mesopotamia and Egypt ? no large structures were built for important personalitiess like kings or pharaohs."

Like their contemporaries in Egypt and Mesopotamia,?the Harappans, who were named after one of their largest cities, lived next to rivers.

"Until now, speculations abounded about the links between this mysterious ancient culture and its life-giving mighty rivers," Giosan said.

So we could do nothing, but to get in the antique station wagon and let mom take us.And on the awful journey to school, I thought about what Zack said, about getting bullied and all.This year i wanted to change all that.

And before we knew it we reached the the creaking old sign saying ?SCHOOL AHEAD?to warn us students that school was just a few meters away and we needed to brace our self for the worst because for us,it was more of a DANGER DO NOT ENTER kinda? sign.

And to avoid the aforementioned embarrassment,I told mom to stop a few
feet away from the school gate and luckily,there were no screw ups this time around.

There are a couple of places where the grammar needs to be tightened. The most obvious is that, after a character has finished speaking, you should put a punctuation mark BEFORE the end of the speech marks.

e.g.

"Hey, Dad," said Jake
"But it?s just 7.00!" I complained
"Hello," I began. "What?s your name?"

You also need a space after the punctuation, e.g. "Good morning Jake, geared up for school?"

Other than that, and a couple of other small grammatical mistakes, your work looks good! Tighten them up and it will make it so much easier to read; you will find it flows better too!

Skype for Windows Phone Arrives in Beta Version

IDG News Service (London Bureau) ? Windows Phone users now have access to the Skype Internet calling service.

A beta version of Skype for Windows Phone can now be downloaded from the Marketplace application store, Skype said in a blog post.

The "gold version" of the application will be available in April. The beta has been tested and certified for Nokia's Lumia 710 and Lumia 800, HTC's Titan and Radar, and Samsung's Focus S and Focus Flash.

With the Skype for Windows Phone beta users can make free audio and video calls -- excluding potential data charges -- to their Skype contacts over 3G, 4G or Wi-Fi, as long as it is allowed by the operator. When making video calls Skype recommends using a Wi-Fi connection.

A video on YouTube shows how Skype has adapted its user interface to fit with Windows Phone.

Users can also make calls to landlines and mobiles by first paying for Skype Credit. Other features allow users to create and hold group chats, and update their profile and account information.

"This is only the beginning for Skype for Windows Phone...it's just going to get better and better," the blog post said.

Late on May 23, the JTWC upgraded Sanvu to a category 1 typhoon, for the system became compact and more organized as an eye was forming. After being upgraded to a severe tropical storm by the JMA late on May 24, Sanvu?s eye directly passed over I?-t? late on May 25.

On May 25, 2012 at 1500 UTC (11 a.m. EDT/U.S.), Typhoon Sanvu had maximum sustained winds near 60 knots (69 mph/111 kph), slightly weaker than it was on May 24. Typhoon-force winds cover a compact area, extending 25 miles (40 km) from the center, while tropical storm-force winds extend as far as 150 miles (241.4 km) from the center, making the storm over 300 miles (~483 km) in diameter.

Sanvu?s center was located near 23.9 North and 140.3 East, only 100 nautical miles (115 miles/185 km) southwest of Iwo To, Japan and moving to the north-northeast at 7 knots (8 mph/13 kph). Sanvu continues to churn up rough seas, and the Joint Typhoon Warning Center reported that wave heights in the region are as high as 31 feet (9.4 meters).

Let's End The Confusion About Real Estate Photography Copyright

For as long as there has been professional real estate photography there?s been total confusion about who owns the copyright to real estate photography. agbeat.com has a good example of the crazy TOS of most MLSs. There are only very a few exceptions. Here?s the situation:

1. Real estate photographers believe and behave like they own the copyright (which I believe they do if this was settled in a court case).
2. Listing agents for the most part don?t care about, pay attention to or understand copyright and photo licensing. They just do whatever?s necessary to get their listing online ASAP.
3. MLSs are concerned about the potential legal risk of having copyrighted photos that they don?t own the copyright to in their listing databases that they syndicate to large number of real estate sites, so they say in their terms of service that the act of uploading photos transfers the copyright to the MLS or specify that no copyrighted photos can be uploaded to their MLS.

This can?t be rocket science! I cannot see why it isn?t possible to have a TOS agreement that works for all parties here. It would say the photographer or whoever created the photos owns the copyright (standard intelectual property law since they created the photos) and the creator of the photos grants a limited use license to the listing agent and the MLS that allows both the agent and the MLS to do whatever they need to do to take care of business. The listing agent would have the photographer sign this page and adds it to the 30 or so other pages of the listing agreement that they file with their broker and the MLS when they take the listing.?

I think this is a good time to get this?craziness?fixed because the recent flap about listing syndication is raising the awareness of agents of who owns the listing data. They are starting to think more about having control of their listings.

I?m in the process of attempting to contact some legal people involved in creating MLS rules to see what they think about resolving this issue. Seems like if it?s solved in one large MLS perhaps others would follow suit. If anyone knows of any MLS that is already setup this way I would love to know about it. I know their is at least one in the US but I can?t remember where it is.

Gas prices have fallen an average 27 cents a gallon since April and are 12 cents lower than last Memorial Day. With gas prices down, experts predict more Memorial Day travel, dining, and shopping.

More Americans will hit the road this holiday weekend than a year ago. And they'll have a bit more money to spend thanks to lower?gas?prices.

Memorial Day kicks off the summer travel season, and since pump?prices?never reached $4 or $5 a gallon ($1.05 to $1.32 a liter), as feared, economists says travelers are likely to dine out or shop more once they pull off the road.

About 30.7 million Americans will drive more than 50 miles (80 kilometers) for Memorial Day trips, according to auto club AAA. That's 400,000 more than last year, a jump AAA attributes to improvement in the economy and consumer attitudes. The number of holiday travelers grows to 34.8 million when you include planes, trains and other means of transportation.

A drop in?gas?prices?encouraged Americans to spend more at restaurants and bars in April. And that trend could continue over the holiday. Pump?prices?are down 27 cents a gallon since their peak in early April, to $3.67 a gallon (nearly $1 a liter), where they're likely to stay this weekend, predicts Tom Kloza, the chief oil analyst at the Oil?Price?Information Service. That's 12 cents cheaper than last year. Over the weekend, U.S. drivers will burn about 1.2 billion gallons of gasoline ? and spend $144 million less on?gas?than last year.

Restaurants, movie theaters and retailers hope some of that savings goes to them. Just last month, AAA and IHS Global Insight, the firm that analyzed the AAA study, were expecting travelers to spend less on entertainment, dining and shopping on vacation and devote more time to family and friends. .

Now, travelers might take longer trips or spend more on other things "because there's more money left in their pocket," says John Larson, vice president for IHS.

Still, most people need to restrict their travel budgets. For many, incomes are growing slightly if at all. Household debt remains high. And although the increase in the stock market over the past year has helped some regain wealth lost in the recession, there is still a ways to go. A recent report from the Federal Reserve shows that American household wealth would have to rise by 13 percent to return to pre-recession levels.

Samsung UN55ES6500F

The Samsung UN46ES6500F ($1,729.99 list) is a smart-looking 46-inch HDTV with 3D capabilities, loads of interactive web services, and built-in Wi-Fi. It delivers very accurate colors and a crisp, clean HD picture, but the LED backlit panel could be brighter. You won't get dark inky blacks with this model either, and it only has three HDMI ports. However, it does offers some neat features, including two sets of active shutter 3D glasses and Samsung's Smart Hub menu system that makes it easy to launch apps, play multimedia files and movies, surf the web, and connect to other devices.

Editors' Note: This review is based on tests performed on the Samsung UN46ES6500F, the 46-inch model in the same series. Besides the screen size difference, the 55-inch $2,519.99 UN55ES6500 is identical in features, and while we didn't perform lab tests on this specific model, we expect similar performance.

Design and Features
Style-wise, the UN46ES6500F is easy on the eyes. The panel, which actually measures 45.9 inches, is framed by an ultra-slim (0.5-inch) matte black bezel and sits in a slender 1.25 inch cabinet (the bottom juts out to 1.9 inches to accommodate the down-firing speakers). The bezels are decorated with beveled clear trim, giving the set a pleasing angular look. A shiny Samsung badge protrudes downward from the center of the bottom bezel. The sturdy four-legged stand is piano black and can swivel smoothly.

Two USB ports and one HDMI port are vertically positioned at the rear of the cabinet and facing right. Two additional HDMI ports and one more USB port are flush mounted along with digital audio in and out connections, an optical audio output, shared component and composite AV jacks, a TV cable/antenna jack, a LAN port, and an EX-Link (serial) port. While most HDTVs this size offer four HDMI ports, the UN46ES6500F only gives you three, which can be a problem if you have a set top box, a Blu-ray player, and more than one gaming console.?

There are no function buttons on the UN46ES6500F. Instead, there's a small joystick control mounted on the lower right side of the back panel that lets you access and navigate the various menu pages. It's easier to use the remote to adjust settings and launch apps. The 9-inch wand is backlit and has all the usual player, volume, and channel controls. The number buttons are a tad small and the backlighting is slightly dim, but the remote is lightweight and fits comfortably in the hand. In the center of the remote is a colorful Smart Hub key.

Samsung's Smart Hub provides a single point of access for launching Web apps, streaming content from the Web and compatible DLNA devices over an Ethernet connection or the UN46ES6500F's built-in Wi-Fi, playing movies, and accessing USB based content. The icon-driven menu is colorful and easy to navigate. It includes the cloud-based Family Story app, which lets families share photos and videos and schedule events, an interactive Fitness app for body sculpting, fat burning, and weight monitoring, and a Kids portal featuring several?Canimals?episodes, WordWorld, and other kid oriented apps.

Samsung's Web app catalog is extensive, offering more than 70 information channels including Save Our Planet, The History Of America, and Home Safety. Streaming movie apps include Netflix, Hulu Plus, Vudu, CinemaNow, and Blockbuster, and there are over 90 free and paid games available. Education services include Today In History, the Periodic Tables, and Guitar Chords, and you get about a dozen sports apps including MLB, NBA, and ESPN. You can also access most social networks (Facebook, Twitter, Picasa) and surf the Web with the built-in browser.

The UN46ES6500F provides plenty of picture settings to help you get the best possible picture for your lighting environment. There are four picture modes (Standard, Dynamic, Movie, and Natural) with optimized settings for their respective function. Movie mode offers the best all-around picture, especially if you're in a dimly lit room. You get all the basic settings, including backlight, brightness, contrast, sharpness, color, and tint controls, as well as a handful of advanced settings such as 10-point white balance, gamma, flesh tone, black tone, and dynamic contrast ratio. Picture options include AutoMotion Plus with judder and blur reduction for eliminating motion artifacts, film mode (for content shot at 24 fps), and LED Motion Plus, which uses backlight strobe to help reduce motion blur.

Performance
The UN46ES6500F's performance was a mixed bag. While seated at dead center it provided a realistic 3D picture with very little crosstalk while watching?Sharks 3D. Crosstalk was more prominent when seated at an extreme angle but the 3D effect was still enjoyable. The set comes with two pairs of lightweight active shutter glasses which are fairly comfortable but not very stylish. They also let too much light in from the sides.

Using images from the DisplayMate suite of HDTV diagnostic tests, a Chroma Meter, and SpectraCal's Calman software, the panel produced a peak brightness reading of 101.81 cd/m²?after a basic darkroom calibration. That's not very bright for an LED backlit HDTV, especially when compared to other LED sets like the?Vizio M3D550KD ($1,429.99, 4 stars) (364.75 cd/m²) and LG 55LM6700 ($2,299.99, 4 stars) (256.68 cd/m²). Moreover, the UN46ES6500F's black level (0.06 cd/m²) can't touch that of the Vizio (0.02 cd/m2) or the LG (0.03 cd/m²), and its measured contrast ratio of 1696:1 is mediocre at best.

On the plus side the UN46ES6500F delivers very accurate colors out of the box, as shown in the CIE Chromaticity Chart below (the red, green, and blue boxes represent the CIE standard for each color and the circles represent the panel's actual reading). It also has a wide off-angle viewing range; there was hardly any color shifting when viewed from an extreme side angle and the panel did not lose luminance.

Scenes from?Piranha?on Blu-ray were crisp with natural looking skin tones, but shadow detail suffered a bit as a result of the panel's inability to display dark blacks, and you don't get the kind of punchy picture that you get from a panel with a high contrast ratio. Still, the UN46ES6500F delivers a very sharp, noise-free picture.

The UN46ES6500F is easy on power but not quite as eco-friendly as the larger LG 55LM6700. During my testing it used 93 watts of power with power saving disabled and 53 watts with power saving set to low, while the LG used 67 watts and 48 watts, respectively. You can cut the UN46ES6500F's power consumption even more by setting power saving to medium (41 watts) or high (28 watts), but both settings are much too dim.

Conclusion
The Samsung UN46ES6500F is a capable 46-inch HDTV that is tastefully designed and offers a nice feature set, including two sets of 3D glasses, lots of interactive apps, and a cloud-based family portal. Its color quality is top notch, but its peak brightness and black level performance hold it back. All told, you'll get better performance from our recent budget Editors' Choice, the Vizio M3D550KD, and you'll get more screen and save a few hundred dollars while you're at it.
