Typhoon Tembin and Typhoon Bolaven continue to churn in the Philippine Sea, and infrared satellite data from NASA showed the power within both storms.

The Atmospheric Infrared Sounder (AIRS) instrument that flies onboard NASA's Aqua satellite captured imagery of both storms on Aug. 21 in two different overpasses. Aqua flies over the same locations during early morning and early afternoon (local time) as it orbits the Earth. Aqua passed over the Philippine Sea on Aug. 21 at 04:41 UTC (12:41 a.m. EDT) and 16:47 UTC (12:47 p.m. EDT). The two satellite passes were combined to show the proximity of the storms from each other. Typhoon Tembin is located east of Taiwan and Typhoon Bolaven west of the Marianas Islands.

The AIRS image of Typhoon Tembin showed a wide area of very high, cold cloud top temperatures, exceeding -63 Fahrenheit (-052 Celsius) surrounding the eye of the storm, which has warmer temperatures (indicating open air). The AIRS data revealed a large area of strong thunderstorms north, east and south of the center of Typhoon Bolaven.

Bolaven has strengthened into a typhoon. It has maximum sustained winds near 80 knots (92 mph/148 kmh) and is expected to continue intensifying. Bolaven is about 270 miles in diameter (310.7 miles/500 km), now larger than Typhoon Tembin. It is located about 685 miles east-southeast of Kadena Air Base, Okinawa, Japan, near 19.3 North latitude and 137.5 East longitude. Bolaven is moving to the west at 9 knots (10.3 mph/16.6 kmh), and is expected to begin moving northwest.

HBT: Red Sox fire pitching coach Bob McClure

The Red Sox are on to their third pitching coach in two seasons after firing Bob McClure on Monday.

McClure served as a pitching coach for the Rockies and Royals before being hired to replace Curt Young last December. Young lasted just one season after taking over for John Farrell, who left Boston after the 2010 campaign for a job as Toronto?s manager.

Replacing McClure is Randy Niemann, who was already working as Boston?s assistant pitching coach. Niemann spent the previous two decades with the Mets and worked under Bobby Valentine in New York for a time. It?s his first gig as a team?s primary pitching coach.

Under McClure, the Red Sox rank 11th in the AL with a 4.30 ERA this season. They were ninth in the league at 4.20 last year.

FCC Map: Broadband Still Unavailable in Parts of Castaic

The Federal Communications Commission issued a report Tuesday saying that while progress has been made, some 19 million Americans ? 6 percent of the population ? still lack broadband Internet availability, defined as download speeds of 3MB per second or better.

A detailed map of the nations shows that while broadband service is available throughout most of the Santa Clarita Valley, parts of the Hasley Canyon-Castaic area haven?t seen fixed broadband deployment.

The FCC?s statement about the report follows.

?

Washington, D.C. ? The nation has made significant progress expanding high-speed Internet access in recent years, but further implementation of major reforms newly adopted by the Federal Communications Commission is required before broadband will be available to the approximately 19 million Americans who still lack access, according to the FCC?s Eighth Broadband Progress Report.

In an era when broadband is essential to innovation, jobs, and global competitiveness, the Report concludes that the FCC ? and the nation ? must continue to address obstacles impeding universal broadband deployment and availability.

Congress in Section 706 the Telecommunications Act of 1996 requires the FCC to report annually on whether broadband ?is being deployed to all Americans in a reasonable and timely fashion.? The Report chronicles major strides taken by providers and policymakers to accelerate deployment, including:

* Billions invested by the communications industry in broadband deployment, including next-generation wired and wireless services

* Expansion of networks technically capable of 100 megabit-plus speeds to over 80 percent of the population through cable?s DOCSIS 3.0 rollout

* World-leading LTE deployment by mobile operators

* Sweeping reforms by the FCC to its universal service programs, including the new Connect America Fund for broadband deployment, Mobility Fund, and the Lifeline program for low-income Americans

* Action under the FCC?s Broadband Acceleration Initiative to reduce the cost and time required for deployment

* Numerous steps to expand availability of wireless spectrum for broadband

Notwithstanding this progress, the Report finds that approximately 19 million Americans?6 percent of the population?still lack access to fixed broadband service at threshold speeds. In rural areas, nearly one-fourth of the population ?14.5 million people?lack access to this service. In tribal areas, nearly one-third of the population lacks access. Even in areas where broadband is available, approximately 100 million Americans still do not subscribe. The report concludes that until the Commission?s Connect America reforms are fully implemented, these gaps are unlikely to close. Because millions still lack access to or have not adopted broadband, the Report concludes broadband is not yet being deployed in a reasonable and timely fashion.

Having good data is critical to attacking these problems, and this Broadband Progress Report arms the FCC with the best information it has had yet on broadband in the U.S. This is our first progress report ever to include extensive data on mobile broadband and the availability of next-generation, high-speed services. It incorporates the most robust analysis of international data that the Commission has ever done. The report includes online, interactive maps which show exactly where broadband is and isn?t available, and deployment statistics?by technology type?for every county in the nation.

Technology and the needs of businesses and consumers continue to evolve, the FCC notes in a Notice of Inquiry also released today that seeks public input for the next annual report. Because higher-speed broadband is increasingly available and market offerings continue to change, the Notice of Inquiry explores how to keep the broadband report up-to-date, including further examining the role of mobile services and next-generation, high-speed services in the FCC?s next annual evaluation of broadband availability.

Lupe Fiasco to Bring Food to Chicago's Food Desserts During ...

Of course people would argue that Lupe Fiasco?s tearful interview explaining the continual violence, gross disenfranchisement and hopelessness in his hometown of West Side Chicago should be the very reason why he should vote.

On the contrary, it has provided the impetus for him to be vocal about not voting and seeing it useless for the average person whose interests are never served.

Lupe?s perspective, in truth, is the reason why black and brown youth are ever so turned off about the voting process 4 years since they largely participated in the 2008 presidential elections.

Though they say politics are local, the youth were reined into the national election, thus staying mis-educated about the issues on the local level. There is a difference between casting a ballot and being politically active; however, most ?activists? were not interested in that part of the equation. Mentoring youth, and their activists to understand the importance of localized political engagement would only mess up Sharpton?s time at the salon to get his edges retouched.

As a result, local politics remained the same?completely failing and disregarding the same population that was mobilized to vote for them.

Nonetheless, this reality also pushes Lupe to be politically engaged in his music and beyond.

Lupe who is currently providing, free, healthy food during Ramadan, articulates the contradictions and ironies he sees in US policies and social order. Lupe?s latest single, ?Freedom Ain?t Free? provides insight into the conundrum, corporate exploitation and chaos that the average young person navigates in the midst of profiling, unemployment, and streamlined resources to be a productive citizen.

I agree with Lupe when he states in his latest single, ?America?s a big motherfuckin? garbageman.? And as he says in the interview, this system has eaten and thrown away many of his peers. The brilliant and provocative emcee who also attended and supported Occupy Wall Street pointed out in this interview that some of the cats on his block are either imprisoned or dead, haunting him today as harsh testaments that black and brown Chicago communities are blighted and burning.

The MTV interview showed a previous Lupe interview when he first came out six years prior. He was a hood kid who used skating as a way to balance his life. When he went to the other side of town, the place he called home, he described is displeasure with the high levels of disenfranchisement that his community endures.

The two frames are juxtaposed realities that the average inner city youth lives. On one hand, we are entrenched with visuals and realities of social-political-cultural implosion from Brooklyn to Oakland , but on the other hand, we live a parallel to an alternative life of the hipster movement, a commercialized, and fresh-faced Justin Bieber-esque campaign that borrows heavily from our culture, minus the poverty and prison records.

And that is how a lot of us youth live, even if we have made it, we must all go home. Even if we are second and third generation ?middle and upper class? black people, we all have family members who are struggling. And while Lupe enjoys the lightness he feels in his career choice, his travels, and his evolution as a human, he wears the weight of his people on his shoulders.

Though Pete Rock is pissed that Lupe took his legendary beat that was used in ?They Reminisce Over You (TROY),? a song that memorialized friend Trouble T-Roy, Pete Rock is simply the pot calling the kettle black since he stole it from Tom Scott and the California?s Dreamer?s song ?Today?.

Love the lyrics in Lupe?s shit. Rip it brother on both ends.
